What is a SCY yarn?

SCY yarn（Traditional covered yarn or single covered yarn） is a textile material that combines spandex (elastic fiber) and other fibers (such as polyester and nylon) through a special process. This yarn has excellent elasticity and recovery properties.
In the production process of single covered yarn, firstly, spandex and other fibers are spun into yarns separately, and then these yarns are wrapped according to a certain proportion and structure, and they are tightly twisted together by mechanical force. This twisting process is carried out by specialized machinery, so it is called “machine wrapping”.
The characteristic of traditional covered yarn is its elasticity and recovery. Due to the addition of spandex fiber, single covered yarn can provide better elasticity and recovery, making the fabric more comfortable and close-fitting during wear, and maintaining good shape and texture. In addition, single covered yarn also has good wear resistance and wrinkle resistance, and is easier to dye and finish.

What is the difference between Acy and SCY?

Single covered yarn (SCY) and air covered yarn (ACY) are two different methods for making yarn, with distinct differences in production principles and yarn structure.

SCY is a method of continuously wrapping an outer fiber filament around the uniformly drawn core filament of spandex, and twisting it to form a yarn with a twist coefficient. This production method creates a dense yarn structure, resulting in a smooth and stiff fabric feel, making it mainly suitable for high-end fabrics and special-purpose fabrics.

ACY, on the other hand, involves continuously stretching the outer fiber filament and spandex filaments simultaneously, passing them through a specific nozzle, and using compressedive air to them into a rhythmic network of dots. This production method creates a loose yarn structure, resulting in a soft and smooth fabric feel, making it mainly suitable for knitted fabrics and elastic fabrics.

Therefore, SCY and ACY have distinct differences in production processes, yarn structures, and fabric styles, requiring specific yarn types to be selected based on specific needs.

What is the difference between single and double yarn?

Single covered yarn and double covered yarn are two common yarn covering methods in the textile industry.
Firstly, the main difference between single covered yarn and double covered yarn is the number of layers of covering. Single covered yarn has only one layer of polyester sheet or fiber covering, while double covered yarn has two layers. This difference in layering leads to differences in strength and stability. Specifically, single covered yarn has relatively lower yarn strength and some lack of stability, while double covered yarn has better strength and stability.
Secondly, the production process of single covered yarn and double covered yarn is also different. Single covered yarn involves covering one yarn at a time with polyester sheets or fibers, while double covered yarn involves covering two or more yarns together. Therefore, the production process of double covered yarn is relatively more complex and requires more equipment and processes.
In addition, single covered yarn and double covered yarn also differ in their uses. Single covered yarn is usually used in applications that do not require high strength and stability, such as underwear and certain outerwear fabrics, while double covered yarn is usually used in applications that require higher durability, such as workwear, canvas, and so on.
